Welcome

Yourclearpoint.com is your gateway into a welcoming and soothing retreat center where you can recharge yourself, physically, mentally and spiritually. Our holistic approach allows us to view all of these areas as forming one single unit, where they are all equally important and not one should be payed more attention than the others. What holistic healing teaches us is that a physical disease, as bad as it by itself, is also a sign of an underlying imbalance that can be mental, spiritual, or both. Moreover, holistic medicine is not resorted to only when an ailment afflicts us. As a matter of fact, it is a whole lifestyle that strives for a better overall quality of life and health.

Your Clear Point retreat center uses several bettering activities to accomplish well-being, some of which include yoga, meditation, acupuncture and aromatherapy. Next, we will take a quick look at these disciplines.

Yoga

Yoga is a set of physical and mental techniques that started in India sometime between 3300 and 1700 BC. It is closely related to meditative practices in Hinduism (world’s 3rd largest religion), Buddhism (est. 6th-4th centuries BCE) and Jainism (9th-6th centuries BCE). The main branches include Raja, Karma, Jnana, Bhakti and Hatha yoga. The word itself may come from the Sanskrit yuj, which means to control, to yoke or to united. It has been translated as joining, uniting, union, conjunction, and means. The practice of this discipline involves a variety of positions, postures, or asanas (Sanskrit for sitting down) that help to enhance general well-being. These poses include the downward facing dog, the downward facing tree, the half moon, the half spinal twist, the bound angle, the crane, the frog, the cobra, the wheel, the bow, the eagle, the cow face, the crow, the pigeon, the heron, the fish, the lotus, the revolved side angle, the noose, the lion, the abdominal lock, the scorpion, and many, many more.

Meditation

Many of the aforementioned positions are done with the goal of meditation. It mostly involves summoning or nurturing an internal feeling or state. In broad strokes, this is a form of taking a break, however short, from the demands and obligations of the outside world, but it can do a lot more than just that. By reaching a peaceful state of mind, happiness becomes more accessible, and not just while we meditate, but all of the time. Peace of mind translates into a better physical health. Although this is largely an inner personal practice, there are certain conditions that enhance it and that can be found in a refined retreat center. The better known technique is that of transcendental meditation, based on the Vedic tradition of enlightenment from India. This aims to transcend consciousness and reach a state of pure awareness.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an ancient healing technique that sees needles being inserted into a series of specific points in the human body in order to regulate the qi. Qi is the vital energy that circulates through all living things. Among the benefits of this practice we find pain relief, infertility therapy, diseases treatment and prevention, as well as promoting general health and serving therapeutic purposes. There are numerous points or meridians all over the body, each with different functions and purposes. The spleen for instance, has 21 points, the heart has 9, the bladder 67, the kidney 27, the pericardium 9, the gall bladder 44, the liver 14, the lungs 11, the large intestine 20, the stomach 45, and so on and so forth. The needles are solid, stainless steel, measure from 13 to 70 milliliters and are very flexible to facilitate manipulation. They are also devoid of a cutting edge so, unlike hypodermic needles, they do not slice through tissue. Needless to say, they are thoroughly sterilized.

Aromatherapy

Elements used in aromatherapy, such as infused aromatic oils, were described by Pedanius Dioscorides, a Greek physician who lived between from 40 to 90 AD, so we can safely assume that this practice is quite ancient. However, the word itself would not be coined until 1937 when it appeared in a book by French author and chemist Rene-maurice Gattefosse. Another French scientist, Jean Valnet, used essential oils during World War II as antiseptics to treat wounded soldiers. There are three main methods of application: aerial diffusion (environmental fragrancing and aerial disinfection), direct inhalation (respiratory disinfection, decongestion, expectoration and psychological effects), and topical application (general massage, baths, compresses, therapeutic skin care). As for the materials used, they include absolutes (oils extracted from flowers or plant tissues), carrier oils (oily plant based triacylglycerides), essential oils (extracted from plants via steam distillation), herbal distillates (aqueous by products of distillation), infusions (aqueous extracts of plan material), phytoncides (volatile organic compounds) and vaporizer raw herbs (higher oil content materials dried, crushed and heated).
